With the current capital gains tax regime many business owners appreciate the ability to generate a substantial lump sum through a sale which is taxed at rates significantly below the current basic tax rates.

If the sale proceeds are then correctly positioned through independent financial advice the 'net' income that can be generated is usually substantially more than the 'net' income that was being taken through the business before the sale, with all the tax that had to be paid either by the business or as you received the income in your hands.
